Renal (RE)

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is frequently observed in dogs, mainly in elderly animals, although young dogs may also present the condition, especially those with inherited or congenital disease. The CKD of acquired origin includes several etiological agents, the main ones being infectious, toxic, ischemic, immune-mediated, etc. Once present, the kidney injury can evolve without the presence of the etiological agent that caused the process and, with that, there is a gradual loss of kidney function. The kidneys perform several functions which preserve homeostasis. Renal dysfunction can be detected by laboratory analysis abnormalities and clinical manifestations due to fluid, electrolyte and acid-base imbalance. Usually, laboratory test abnormalities are detected earlier than clinical manifestations. The main goals of dietary therapy are based on the supply of daily energy needs, azotemia control, control of secondary renal hyperparathyroidism, correcting electrolyte imbalances and deficiency of B-complex vitamins, the need for supplementation of fatty acids with less inflammatory and anti-platelet aggregation actions, as well as improvement of renal blood flow with the action of omega-3.

Description

INDICATION
• Indicated for dogs with chronic renal failure and/or recurrent urolithiasis.

CONTRAINDICATION
• Not recommended for puppies, pregnant and lactating dogs;
• Dogs presenting sodium depletion

FEEDING PERIOD
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) throughout the dog’s life. Acute Kidney Disease (ARD) during clinical treatment or at the discretion of the veterinarian.
